About BendMate

Who makes it

I’m Andrew. I do electrical work as a hobby, and BendMate is my project: I build the calculator, gather the bender data and write the guides on this site. It’s a one-person project, so when you send a message, I’m the one who reads it.

What it’s for

BendMate is built around three ideas. Marks should come from your bender’s real radius and deduct, not from a chart that treats every bend as a sharp corner. It should work on whatever phone or computer you have, with no signal. And it should cost once, with no subscription.

Where the numbers come from

Each built-in bender’s radius and deduct comes from the manufacturer’s published manuals, catalogs or datasheets, or is worked out from the manufacturer’s own bending tables. Where a manufacturer doesn’t publish a radius, BendMate uses the NEC minimum and says so. Every bender page shows where its numbers came from.

Conduit outside diameters come from the ANSI C80 standards, checked against manufacturers’ tables. The math for every bend type is checked by automated tests against worked examples.

Check before you bend

Benders vary, even two of the same model, and shoes wear. Bend a test piece on a scrap first. If your bender comes out long or short, correct its deduct in the bender specs in BendMate, and every mark follows.
